SOMA
“Soma” is a photographic project dedicated to the beauty, dignity, and freedom of the horse. Through a series of images shot on film in various parts of Italy, the work explores the essence of this animal in its natural environment, far from imposed functions or assigned roles.
The horse is not portrayed here as a tool or a companion in labor, but as a living being endowed with strength, grace, and interiority. The photographs offer an intimate and respectful perspective, born from a deep personal connection: that of the author, who has worked with horses and considers them a guiding animal—both spiritual and real.
The title Soma evokes the body, the weight, the presence. A body that carries memory, movement, and symbol. It is also the burden horses have borne for millennia: physical, cultural, and symbolic. This project seeks to lighten that burden—at least in the gaze—offering back a possible freedom.
These images do not tell a fairytale, but an essential truth: one in which the horse is not tamed, but recognized.
